Here are some women in the mushing world who have paved the way for future women in mushing. These are women who have earned a great deal of my respect and admiration!
- Libby Riddles: The first woman to win the Iditarod in 1985.
- Dee Dee Jonrowe: The foremost female dog musher competing in the world today. She has both the fastest time of any woman in the history of the Iditarod and thirteen top ten finishes in her career
- Susan Butcher: The only person ever to win the 1,161 mile Iditarod three consecutive times. Sadly, Susan lost her battle with leukemia on August 5, 2006.

- Mary Shields: Mary Shields was one of two women to be the first to participate in the Iditarod Trail Race in 1974, and the first to finish the Iditarod.
